Hi, I'm Sophia Moros, Educator at ACS - Athens.
Sophia Moros's Bio:
Sophia Moros is a certified teacher, with a concentration in Reading and Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL). She has worked with children and adults in the United States and Europe alike; where she has had ample experience in administration and working in classrooms from Early Childhood through Middle School. Sophia Moros is an energetic individual who loves what she does. Sophia was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois where she completed her studies and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. During her first year teaching grades K-4 she completed a Masters Degree in Reading, then took on the challenging role as a Reading Specialist working with struggling students in grades 3 through 8. Sophia was privileged to work at a reputable school district in the north suburbs of Chicago that gave her the opportunity to implement an interactive program, called Lightspan (developed with Sony Corporation Education) in order to successfully bring the lowest performing students up to state standards in reading. Later, she worked as a Reading Literacy Teacher for ESL students and work as a mentor to fellow teachers and students through various team teaching strategies. With ten years of teaching experience Sophia seized the opportunity to study at Trinity College, Barcelona and earn both a TESOL Certificate and Business English Certificate. She also taught temporarily at this institute before deciding to move to Athens, Greece where she had accepted a position as the Director of English Studies in a large private language school. After three years of directing, Sophia returned to the classroom at the American Community Schools in Athens. With international experience and an open mind to possibilities, Sophia is looking forward to learning more about her field and stay up to date with best practices. Sophia thoroughly enjoys working with diverse cultures in a place she loves. In May 2104 Sophia and colleague Ms. Dimas presented in the 8th Annual Learning Difference Conference with a colleague. This workshop, which they titled iteach2! will demonstrate to fellow educators how students can personalize their learning and communicate effectively by sharing their knowledge to their peers. Since 2016 Sophia has been servicing ACS Athens as Elementary School Principal.
